Actually, if you're hammering at a standard cobblegen, the gravel will almost never go into the lava. It's some special magic that ex nihilo does that makes drops go to a nearby player.

Even if I tightened the limit up so that the speed of the clicks had no extraordinaire effect at all, your trick of moving the cursor around where 4 of them intersect would still allow a simple person to sift 4 times faster than they would using a primitif sieve.
